Each OpenSciEd unit undergoes an 18-month development process that includes external reviews, a robust field test, and revision. OpenSciEd will be releasing units at the end of this process and after they are evaluated by Achieve’s EQuIP Peer Review Panel and have received a quality rating.
In light of the unprecedented school closures and shelter-in-place orders brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to adjust our unit development and public release schedule. Because extensive field testing is an integral part of our development, the absence of in-person schooling has impacted our schedule. We will continue to prioritize the wisdom provided by teachers and students that make OpenSciEd materials high quality.
Below is an updated release schedule where you will notice some units have been pushed back by a few months; yet, the full middle grades program release remains on target for a February 2022 release. There are assumptions baked into this schedule that we may need to reconsider depending on the 2020/21 school year, and we will keep you abreast of changes to this schedule. We thank you for your continued partnership.
Released OpenSciEd units will be available at this page for download as a PDF or as an editable Google document that can be copied to a personal folder or downloaded as a Microsoft Word document. We have also partnered with a printer and a kit provider for those who would like to purchase hard copies of the materials. OpenSciEd’s three-year middle school science course will be completed by Winter 2022.
