National Science Teaching Association
NSTA’s mission is to promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all.
The National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) is a vibrant community of science educators and professionals committed to best practices in teaching science and its impact on student learning. NSTA offers high-quality science resources and continuous learning so that science educators can grow professionally and excel in their careers. For new and experienced teachers alike, the NSTA community offers the opportunity to network with like-minded peers at the national level, connect with mentors and leading researchers, and learn from the best in the field.
NSTA offers an extensive menu of supporting materials for OpenSciEd including virtual and in-person workshops, web seminar series, mentoring services, and virtual and in-person instructional coaching services, These curriculum-based professional learning services, combined with NSTA’s community and cohort programs, can be leveraged for sustained professional learning support for the implementation of OpenSciEd high-quality instructional materials.
NSTA supports educators to design instruction that supports all learners in the classroom. NSTA professional learning is grounded in the critical attributes of sensemaking,
- using phenomena/problems to drive instruction;
- providing opportunities for students to engage in the science and engineering practices;
- providing opportunities and support for students to share, revise, and evolve their ideas within a classroom community; and
- providing opportunities to develop an understanding of grade-appropriate science ideas and concepts.
NSTA works continually to incorporate the latest research from the National Academies about how to support all learners in achieving science and STEM literacy.
NSTA develops professional learning that provides opportunities for teachers to explore and use new tools and strategies, as well as exemplars of high-quality instructional materials that will enhance understanding and support the implementation of the NGSS and other three-dimensional science standards. We offer support to schools and districts including virtual and in-person workshops, web seminar series, asynchronous professional learning units, mentoring services, and virtual and in-person instructional coaching services, Our professional learning services combined with NSTA’s large collection of high-quality resources and community and cohort programs can be leveraged for sustained professional learning support.
