Empowering STEM educators to inspire youth who become the innovators and workforce of tomorrow

A leader in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professional development for over 29 years, MMSA works with both in- and out-of-school educators to support growth through robust professional learning experiences, coaching, and consulting. MMSA supports educators in New England and throughout the country to teach science, technology, engineering and math in more meaningful ways by:

  1. Developing professional development experiences for K-12 educators;
  2. Conducting research and evaluation of STEM learning experiences; and
  3. Building relationships and networks to sustain systemic statewide improvement.

Focus of OpenSciEd Work

MMSA offers curriculum-based science professional learning consulting to support educators in rethinking science education in the context of the Next Generation Science Standards. Using OpenSciEd as a base, individual educators and educator teams will be empowered to rethink their current approach to science education as they critique and align national scale resources with what will work for their school, their culture, and their community context.

We offer OpenSciEd’s Curriculum Launch, Ongoing Support with Unit Deep Dives, Instructional Coaching, and Customized Services to educators and districts. We are available to contract directly with your school or district to facilitate specialized workshops and follow-up coaching or consultation services to meet your needs. Throughout the year, we also host a series of workshops available for educators who are interested in the OpenSciEd professional learning series but don’t have the number of individuals or budget for the entire district to participate. “Hosted by MMSA” events welcome educators from anywhere to join us for a per-person fee, full and partial scholarships are available to educators serving high needs districts. Supporting Equitable Science Instruction

MMSA is deeply committed to centering the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in all of our work. We recognize, honor, and value the deeply reflective and intentional work required to promote and sustain lasting impacts. As an organization, we have prioritized this work as part of our strategic plan and will continually update and revise our practices to work towards a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization.
We hold, as a central value, a strong belief that all students can and should learn science. We are focused on helping educators center and elevate the funds of knowledge students bring to scientific sensemaking.
We have a long history of serving small, rural, and geographically isolated communities in rural areas of New England and across the United States. We are proud to be able to offer full and partial scholarships for educators serving high-needs districts.
