Phenomenon-Based Learning is an exciting way to facilitate student learning and increase science literacy for all. The OpenSciEd facilitator training that is provided is supportive of a fluid and challenging classroom that allows all students to have a voice and invest in their deeper understanding of science. The strong NGSS storyline application allows for this process to be utilized with any curriculum. Make science personal and you foster a lifelong learner. Martha Nowak has worked with Olathe, Shawnee Mission and Piper School District teacher in-services.
The OpenSciEd platform encourages all students to contribute their ideas in developing consensus about a phenomenon, experienced firsthand. This empowers all students to be confident about sharing their ideas and making sense of their observations. No one is wrong, and everyone is engaged.
K-State Olathe is supported by the JCERT tax and is able to provide professional development at nominal to no cost through school district in-services/workshops. As a certified OpenSciEd Facilitator Provider, K-State will host professional development for any school district in the Greater KC area that is willing to be innovative.
