We are an influential and exemplary leader in creating equitable engagement & access to high-quality Professional Learning Services, learning opportunities, & careers in STEM.
The Connecticut Science Center is dedicated to inspiring lifelong learning through interactive and innovative experiences that explore our changing world through science. We strive to create an engaging and sustainable science center that serves families and schools and significantly impacts student and adult learning in Connecticut. We seek to develop the minds of future thinkers and inventors who will compete in the ever-expanding global marketplace for technology and innovation.
The Mandell Academy at the Connecticut Science Center offers professional learning support for inquiry in all disciplines Pre-K through 12th grade, and phenomena-based science instruction K-12 that is fully aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. We offer both fee-based professional learning workshops for individuals as well as customized professional learning services for schools and school districts, using both in-person and hybrid virtual instruction models. Through professional learning with the Mandell Academy, teachers and administrators will gain experience with the implementation of OpenSciEd in the classroom, and with science and pedagogical support provided by trained Professional Learning Specialists. Through follow-up coaching we can help you learn the ins and outs of the OpenSciEd model, as you launch existing OpenSciEd curriculum units. We will also provide on-going support for implementing the OpenSciEd units or help you adapt your existing units to the OpenSciEd model.
As our society and economy and way of life become ever more reliant on broad engagement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), The Mandell Academy for Teaching and Learning at the Connecticut Science Center, strives to support equitable science instruction through access to high-quality & engaging STEM Learning and Professional Learning Services. We embrace differences as we work to equip Pre-K-12th grade educators with resources and instructional practices designed to support them in creating inclusive learning experiences for their students, schools, and communities. All of our programs support the development of skills and knowledge to be successful in the classroom, in life, and in careers, and they are created with a diversity of communities, cultures, and needs as a foundational attribute. We realize this vision with the proficiency and experience of our diverse team, supported by research and insight from our community and district partners.
Our Professional Learning services are designed to support all school systems, from district leaders to classroom teachers and support staff, by providing experiences that are tailored to the needs and specific culture of each school or district that we work with. We offer comprehensive professional learning progressions and experiences for teachers, as well as on-going coaching and curriculum work. Our Professional Learning opportunities range from entry-level through building deeper understanding. Our goal is to encourage shifts in teaching that support student-centered learning that align with the OpenSciEd curriculum and pedagogy. We build multi-year relationships with schools and districts that allow teachers to deepen understanding and improve student outcomes.
