FREE WEBINAR – Assessments Across an OpenSciEd Unit: An Equitable, 3-D, Learning-Focused Approach to Classroom Assessment

In this interactive session, come explore how we design a 3D assessment system across an OpenSciEd unit. Grounded in a philosophy of assessment for learning, we will share approaches to gathering information on what ideas and experiences students are bringing into a unit, formative assessment throughout the unit, and how transfer tasks ask students to apply their 3D understanding to new phenomena. We will share how a systems approach to assessment that values students and is built on equitable assessment practices can support student learning and engagement. This curriculum-embedded assessment approach aligns assessment to what students have opportunities to learn in the unit and focuses on supporting students’ development of science ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts.

We will engage participants in exploring an example unit assessment system, the key features of what system, and identifying takeaways for their own assessment practice.
